WALT 20 Takes a Hit
George Lattin, callsign WALT 20, was shot down in an a O-1 at Bu
Prang SF Camp, 16 Nov. 69. The recordings were made by Clay Peacock
(Carbon Outlaw 20) who later went to Pleikeu.
We are saddened to report that George passed away on October
22, 2006. Obituary
Walt 20 was in an O-1near Bu Prang Special Forces camp in II Corp, Quang Duc. The target was over the border in Cambodia 'a little bit'.
The first tape was made as WALT 20 rolled onto the target to mark it for Dusty
61 and Dusty 62, a flight of F-100's. (Dusty 61 is now deceased Dusty 62
now flies for FEDEX out of Memphis.)

While not of very good quality, the second tape was was recorded in the TACP bunker at Gia Nghia.
Other WALT FAC's (22, 23, 24) are heard as well as the HF. Because
he was very low "Walt 20" is not heard. On this tape, Walt 20 is hit.
"As I rolled in I put in three marks; the first one on two guns and then kicked rudder to the right and marked a location with two smokes that had 4 guns.
I got hit right front, took out the right side of the cockpit, along with all radios except FM along with elevator and ailerons, then exited through the top."

The third, and last tape,
Here is the last one (dusty8.wav). I didn't label it so not sure what it is.
"The F-100 Dusty flight sat on top of me as we left Cambodia. 2LT "Phil"
Phillips was in the back seat, his first flight at Gia Nghia, thought that I would show him the area a tad.
Got the thing on the ground at the Special Forces camp. Bad thing the left wing got tore up by incoming but not until we got it on the ground."
