Home Sweet Home - 5th TAC at Clark AB |
|
These were almost new when I got to Clark in Aug. of 1966. Accomodations consisted of concrete floor, 2 bunks and a piece of steel pipe hung from the ceiling for you to hang your clothes. No a/c of course.

The Dau Area |

Home of the 5th TAC Survival School. Note the heighth of the elephant grass in the background (which we had to tramp through for miles) and Mount Penetubo which was to become world famous years later.

Survival School |
|
Taken on our last day of the infamous Dau Area Survial School (that's why we're smiling). I don't remember most of these guys, but middle row from the left is Chuck Shirkey, who went with me to Pyramid and was my cohort in the legendary Frozen Radar Parts escapade, then me. The guy just behind me and to the right is Andy Paternoster; my roomate from the 963rd at McClellan. The A1C in the middle with the jump wings was the PJ Instructor who ran us ragged. Don't remember his name, but I will never forget him. I didn't know it was possible for a human being with legs a short as his to march that fast. He left us all in the dust and ragged us the whole time.
