Emblem
Description: On a blue disc a black silhouette of a radar search tower, entwined
by a hooded cobra (shades of brown) emitting three red lightning flashes pale
wise. In dexter base a black silhouette of a height finder. Above the serpents
head a brown aircraft bendwise emitting three black vapor trails. The disc
within a bordure of golden yellow scrolls above and below.
Significance. The emblem is symbolic of the Squadron. The blue background
represents the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. The poised
cobra, wrapped around the radar search tower, symbolizes preparedness to strike
back at enemies. The radar, both height finder and search, represents ability to
detect. The camouflaged aircraft represents power to engage, identify, and
designate command and control capabilities in a combat situation.
Motto: PRO OBSERVATIO POSITIVA- For Positive Control.
Approved on 29 Sep 1967.
A bit of
history. The 621st TCS lives on at Osan AB Korea as the 621st
ACS. Its patch is a cobra wrapped around a radar antenna. I was
commander of Det 1, 621st TCS a Yongmun San (Dragon Mountain) Korea from 1975-1976. Det 1
was the closest radar site to the DMZ on top of a 5000ft mountain. At some point in time
the Air Force changed from TCS to ACS.
