MOTEL
TACC-NS (Tactical Control Center - North Sector)

620th TCS
Son Tra (Monkey Mountain), Vietnam

contributed by Robert Jordan

Originally established under the Combat Lightening/Seek Dawn program, MOTEL was also situated on Monkey Mountain.  Located in the same building as Panama, Motel was, and is still, a classified operation.  As such, and unlike Panama, which was a joint USAF/VNAF operation, MOTEL was a US only operation.  Motel's responsibility included the conduct and execution of the air war over the north.  A back up, or alternate site was located in Udorn, Thailand with the call sign MOTEL ALPHA

According to Lou Walter, Motel was operated manual mode using "just a plotting board and some Intel guys from the Security Squadron at Danang. We set up all the procedures that were later automated in the BUIC site. When that became active, We "manual" controllers were sent to Panama and other spots for the second half of our tour"
