Ron CallahanIf our little unit ever had a detachment number, I never knew it. We just called ourselves a liaison unit supporting the Army. We were from the 19th TASS, but there also was at least a 20th and 21st TASS. I was only 19 years old when I started my first tour. I was not totally aware of how things were organized and I still don't know or have enough documentation to verify everything. As close as I can tell, 19TASS was part of 3TFW. I don't know the unit designation of the parent group above that. My PCS orders don't specify. During my tour of 71-72, I think we were considered red-headed step children. Our unit affiliations were ambiguous at best. I have one set of orders moving my detachment from the 505TCG to the 504 TASG with no PCS/PCA. We were part of the 315th Tac. Airlift Wing. What we had to do with "airlifting" is beyond me. The main thing is, we all were so far from our original units that unit numbers didn't seem to matter much. During two tours of Vietnam service I worked on an Air Force base less than two weeks. Ron Callahan
