Mailing List and email Policies

Mailing List

By signing in to the Logbook you make yourself eligible to be placed on the 505th TCG mailing list.  Please understand that this is a private list and will not be shared with anyone.  The purpose for the mailing list is as follows:

  • advise those who are interested of changes and updates to the site,
  • inform viewers of issues affecting operation of the site,
  • inform viewers of items of interest to the viewers such as reunions.

If you don't want to receive emails about the site, please send me a message to that effect and your name will be taken off the list.

Email

Occasionally I receive requests for email addresses from folks searching for other folks.  In order to protect the privacy of the viewers, I will not pass on a persons email address.  I will normally suggest that the review the entries in the LogBook to see if the individual sought is there.  In the event that I happen to have the correct address and the person sought is either not in the logbook or the entry there is incorrect, I will forward the request to the individual sought, thus protecting the receivers privacy.

Pictures and Stories

The thing that makes this the most interesting and, for me at least, what makes history come alive, is the pictures.  It is my intention to create an interesting collection of peoples photographs on this website.  Having said that, please understand that I can't put everything on here that is submitted. I will try to be fair to the submitters, but I want to be fair to the viewers too.  Pictures of your girlfriends or a plane taking off from 1/2 mile away are probably not going to be of general interest.

  1. Please submit your pictures as .gif files.  I've learned that when you scan a picture and save it as a .jpg, your loose some of the picture every time.  (That's why you see pictures with fuzzy areas around them.  They've been saved several times as .jpg's and each time, a little more of the picture has been altered).
  2. Please don't send thumbnails, .jpg, .bmp, or proprietary files (Most scanners or photo enhancing software such Photoshop have their own special format.  Since I use Ulead Photoshop, and it's default format is .ufo, I'll make an exception for .ufo files.  Otherwise, I can't deal with them).
  3. When you email your pictures, please include a description of each picture in a separate file.  I'd like to know who's in the picture or what the subject matter is, approximately when it was taken, and your name.
  4. If possible, I like to include your email address so old buddies can get in touch with you on their own.  However, if you don't want your email address included, please say so in your email.
  5. If you can't get your pictures scanned you can mail them to me at the following address:

If you have to mail pictures, please send copies and not the originals or negatives.  If you want the copies back, include a self addressed envelope.  I really not comfortable having responsibility for your treasures or for entrusting them to the Postal Service or whatever, so scanning is best.

Try to keep the stories clean and non-inflammatory.  I don't intend to be a censor but I also want this place to be a place where all feel welcome.  I know we all had experiences with some folks that still make us scratch our heads.  Leave those stories for reminiscences over a beer or your memoirs.

I, of course reserve the right to not put anything on the site that I don't think is appropriate and am the final authority on all items displayed on the site.

Copyrights

If you want any of your stuff to be protected by copyright, ya gotta tell me.  If I don't see anything from you that says you want it protected, I assume that it will fall under the general protection of the copyrights I claim for this site.  This doesn't mean I want the rights to your stuff.  If it's yours it yours.  What it means is that I claim a copyright to the materials on the site that should protect your stuff from being ripped off by someone else.  I have no intention to seek monetary gain from this and should I ever decide to write a book or something and want to use your materials, I'll get in touch.  Sure wish we didn't have to get into all this, but sooner or later it comes up so I'm trying to articulate how I feel about it,  what I've done, and what I intend to do up front.
